What is an electronic ticket?

Book your flight as usual online or over the telephone with one of our reservations agents, however your ticket is no longer printed on paper. Instead, it is stored in our reservation system as an electronic ticket or e-ticket. To confirm your reservation, we send you a receipt with an itinerary via e-mail. You can then print out your receipt and carry it with you as a confirmation of your reservation.

What are the advantages of electronic ticketing?

An e-ticket can not be forgotten, misplaced or stolen. When booking simply provide your “Form of ID”- a credit card number which references your reservation and then your ticket is “saved” in our check- in system.

"The Form of ID" is only required for when making a reservation online and not for check-in purposes. If you wish, all passengers in your booking can use the same credit card or Frequent Flyer card as their E-Ticket form of ID (for example, children travelling with adults).

Please NOTE that the form of ID will not be asked for when you check in.


How to check-in with an e-ticket

For UK departures please collect your boarding card at the check-in desk.

  • If departing from Reykjavik, Copenhagen, Oslo or Stockholm please use the automated check-in kiosks.
  • For Check-In at London (LHR) or Glasgow (GLA) airports please provide:
    • Your Icelandair E-ticket email confirmation (required for all passengers travelling to Iceland and the United States).
    • Current valid passport.
At an Automated Check-in Kiosk: If you are travelling from Copenhagen, Oslo or Stockholm to Iceland only or if you are departing from Iceland you can use the automated check-in kiosks. You must be carrying a paper ticket. The machine will print out your boarding card, you can they drop off your luggage at the designated luggage drop off area and then you can proceed directly to the gate. This option is available up to 1 hour before your flight is scheduled to depart.


Please Note: You must always show a printed proof of itinerary when travelling to the United States. We recommend that you always carry a printed receipt of your e-ticket with you when traveling to Iceland or to the United States.

*Kiosks are only available for passengers travelling to and from Iceland. If you have purchased a ticket and your are travelling through Iceland, you will be unable to use the Kiosks.
